Job Description:

The Director of Finance position is responsible for establishing financial policies, procedures, controls and reporting systems. This position ensures legal and regulatory compliance for all accounting and financial reporting functions as well oversees cost and general accounting, accounts receivable/collection and payroll and risk management. He/She provides day-to-day operational leadership and guidance to the Finance Division of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists and reports directly to the AANA’s Chief Finance and Information Officer. He/She supervises a professional staff for finance and accounting operations and provides financial management support within the AANA structure, including councils, foundation, subsidiaries, for-profit entity and affiliates.

Experience and Skills:


  • Seven to ten years of senior-level financial management experience leading successful teams in finance, accounting and budgeting functions, ideally in a nonprofit organization (501c3/501c6) or professional association.

  • Excellent knowledge of non-profit financial accounting systems, GAAP accounting and financial reporting principles and practices; nonprofit, foundation and fund accounting compliance regulations; budgetary process oversight; and leading-edge financial controls.

  • Proven experience in continuous improvement and process analysis/refinement.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to clearly and concisely communicate to all levels of the association

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Intermediate experience with MS Office and data/data visualization/BI tools

  • Demonstrated project management skills

  • Ability to work well and communicate with staff at all levels of the association
